In America eating out at restaurants is practically a national pastime. Every year Americans spend millions of dollars eating out and one trip down any major metropolitan area will reveal more eateries and places to pick up a quick bite than you can shake a hoagie at. So yes when it comes to quantity we have it all covered. But what about quality? How many of our ubiquitous eateries are actually worth eating at? More importantly how do we separate the wheat from the chafe, or more appropriately the chef's special from the dollar menu? In these tough economic times restaurant dining has become a more rare treat for most people and as a result there is an increase emphasis on finding quality and value to offset the inherent cost of restaurant dining.
One tip to finding the most bang for your restaurant dining buck is to think outside the box. Trying new, smaller places is often a great way to score more food for less. The big name chain places have their prices set by a corporate office who is concerned with profits above everything else. In smaller locations you can find restaurant dining options run by chefs not accountants and as such their prices are likely to be more manageable. Additionally if you think restaurant dining is still out of your reach consider hitting up a place for lunch instead of dinner. Most restaurants offer a lunch menu that is every bit as good as their dinner menu for a substantial savings. Last but not least remember that restaurant dining is supposed to be a treat not a regular occurrence. If you find yourself eating out multiple times per week consider ways to replicate your favorite meals at home.
